Bejeweled Blitz Review

Bejeweled blitz is a very complicated game to review. I want to say it is amazing but I also want to tell you that I don't always enjoy it.

About the game
Lets start with what this game is. For those of you who don't know what bejeweled is, which I am sure is more than one person, it is a game where you try and match three or more jewels so that you can get points. Different jewels are worth different amounts of points. The goal of the game is to try and get the most points that you can. I have actually never played that game but I have seen it being played and have heard about it from some of my friends. Bejeweled blitz is basically the same game but you have one minute to get as many points as you can.

Bejeweled blitz is a lot of fun to play because you get instant rewards. If you get three in a row, you get some points. While playing this game you rarely care to see how many points each triplet of jewels is worth because you only have one minute and you are trying to get as many points as possible which means you are trying to limit the amount of time that is wasted on anything other than trying to match jewels. It is an amazing game because of how simple it is and how much fun you can have while playing. It is sort of addicting.

The only time I stop playing it is when I get frustrated because of how little points I earn. The game has boosts that you can buy that can help you get a bunch of points. There are four that you can choose from before you start the game but you can only use three of them per game and they cost you points. The same points that you worked hard to earn and the same points you are going to earn more of if you have the boost that costs you points. Other than the four boosts that are always there before you start a game there are these special things that you unlock after games that you can buy. These are really expensive ranging from about 7,000 points to 175,000 points.

The most points I have had at once is 250,000 points. Maybe I suck or something but compared to the amount that these special boosts cost I have virtually nothing.

Leaderboard Rankings
There are also scores that you get when you finish a game. They are almost always more than the points you get. Your score is the thing that shows up on the leader board. The leader board is a list of people that are ranked from the highest to the lowest points. It can be filled with your friends if you sign in to your Facebook or it can be computers that have scores that are equivalent to your goal. Your goal increases every time you reach your old goal and the leader board resets.

Sounds like a lot to handle right? It's actually not because it is very intuitive. Like I said before I never played bejeweled before so when I got this game I was new to it and I learned everything on the go. To me this is the most fun part of the game. You get to see how to make the most points and how many jewels you need to get a Pandora's box type shape. The answer is five by the way. I figured out that this object eliminates all of one jewel on the screen which, in turn, gives you all of the points. So as you can see there are a lot of goals that you can set for yourself that are not so easy to accomplish, which is what makes this game so amazingly addictive.

The best and worst thing about the game is that it is timed. You have one minute to get as many points as possible. This makes your heart race when you play. The game starts and you feel as though you are doing well, the game says great and you think "yeah I'm on top, I'm going to reach my goal". Then you hear "Thirty seconds", and you freak!!! It's too intense I only have thirty seconds left. What am I going to do in thirty seconds!!? You instantly forget how you made all of those jewels disappear in the first thirty seconds and you freeze. Then you realize you just wasted twenty seconds freaking out. You start to get back in the groove and then the time runs out.. Dun Dun Dun... You just got half of the score you would have gotten if you just forgot about the time but its okay because there is no loser in this game. You obtained a great amount of points, be happy.

In case you were wondering, I turn the sound off when I play but I recently found out that the top and sides flash when there is only thirty seconds left so I am still subject to that deer in the headlights effect that I described earlier.

This reaction to being out of time is what gives this game it's amazing addictive qualities. You get a rush of fear and anxiety and then it is over. The best goal is to try and see if you can overcome that feeling. Bejeweled blitz is a must have for everyone brave enough to play.

You can get this game for Free on the Android Marketplace and Apple App Store.
