Microsoft to Aquire Nokia in $7.17 Billion Deal

Guess what Microsoft just bought for 7.17 billion dollars? It's the Nokia phones. Shocker. If you didn't already know, Nokia makes Windows phones almost exclusively. Actually I don't think they make anything else... Microsoft practically already owned them.

Judging by their color pallets, it's a match made in heaven. But Nokias shareholders still have to approve the whole deal. Everything is expected to be finalized in the first quarter of 2014. I'm going to take a wild guess here and say they're going to ask for more money.

Just last year Google bought Motorola for a whopping $12.5 billion. Now all the big boys have their own phone making company. There's nothing stopping innovation now--except of course all those darn patents.

If you look closely at the deal between Nokia and Microsoft, it looks like Nokia will get to keep all its patents. They're sort of only lending them for 10 years. Strange... one would think the way technology advances, those patents would be useless in 10 years.
