The One Game That Could Save the Wii U

I don't even know why I'm bothering to write this when it's blatantly obvious. Without a doubt this one game could put the Wii U on top. The one gaming franchise that could easily be crowned king of all games. This isn't a game where it's just about shooting or driving cars. This is a game where you get to do whatever the hell you want. Pick-up-and-play that anyone could enjoy. We've never seen this franchise on a Nintendo home console but now it's finally a possibility. More than that it's a game that Nintendo needs badly. It's the one game that could single handedly save the Wii U from all ruins. It's Grand Theft Auto V.

Wii U sales might be what's holding them back

Rockstar has a very ubiquitous strategy. They put a lot of time and effort into making high quality games so they are very careful on what system they spend their time on. Rockstar has never spent the time to make a GTA game for a Nintendo console because they did not believe the investment has ever been worth it. This is something they are very open with, they don't beat around the bush, they just say it. They don't think they will get their moneys worth.

Good Console sales gets you rockstar games

However, the tides have been slowly changing in the background. While Rockstar only ever released one game for the GameCube, they put out 3 for the Wii. Bully: Scholarship Edition, Manhunt 2, and Rockstar Games presents Table Tennis. These were basically games ported from the Playstation 2. They then moved on to bigger next-gen games like Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto IV, games that were impossible to port to the Wii. But now we have the Wii U.

Why did Rockstar bother to port the games? Well, by the end of 2007 the Wii had sold 7.4 million systems in the United States. Rockstar saw the opportunity and released games for the Wii. Currently the Wii U is very slowly creeping up to 4 million systems sold globally. The holiday season is coming up and Nintendo recently announced a price drop for Wii U. Starting September 20 Wii U will cost a flat $299.99 for the Delux version which comes with The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD.

For old times sake

Hopefully the very best content throughout the entire industry will show up on Wii U.

Reggie Fils-Aime, MTV Multiplayer
It's in the realm of possibilities that they will port their latest PlayStation 3 / Xbox 360 titles to the Wii U. These could include Max Payne 3 and Grand Theft Auto V. So what's the holdup? Why haven't we heard anything on this? Well, it's basically because Wii U is just selling horribly. Or they might just not be ready.

Reggie Fils-Aime, President of Nintendo of America, has expressed his hope to see Grand Theft Auto 5 on Wii U. Awhile back he said he wanted to see a GTA game on the DS and guess what happened? He got one.

It's already running on Wii U

There's been reports of the game already running on Wii U Developer Kits. So someone at Rockstar decided to go through the trouble of getting a huge game like GTA 5 to run on Wii U. I do not imagine this is a light task to pull off or that they would do this just for fun. I believe Rockstar is seriously considering GTA on Wii U.

Nintendo has it's own plans

Nintendo is currently stepping into deeper strategizing. They are giving you the Wind Waker in the bundle as a downloadable game. This means it practically costs them nothing. They are also giving it to you two weeks in advance of its retail release. I imagine Nintendo will be doing this more often with its games. Offering Unreleased games first as Wii U bundles is a very cost effective way to move the hardware into consumers hands. So as you can see, Wii U sales will pick up on their own but one can only contemplate the wonders Rockstar could've pulled here... GTA V had been 100% complete since about two weeks ago... can you imagine if Nintendo had done with Rockstar and GTA V what they did with the Wind Waker?

Game Over Competition.

What can I do to help?

If you really want the game on Wii U that bad, you can help speed up the process by buying a Wii U. Showing Rockstar that there's a market out there is #1 on their check-off list. If you already have a Wii U, you can move on to step two and sign the petition in order to try to get Rockstars attention. The PC version of the petition has over 300,000 signatures so we have a lot of catching up to do.
